The AI market summary, what it is and what it is not

On the Finance overview, on a stock's page, on search results and on topic pages, a box near the top can give a short summary written by AI. It reads the numbers and headlines on the page and puts them in a few sentences.

#What it looks like

The AI market summary on Apple's quote page: a few paragraphs and bullet points that restate the price, the 52-week range and analyst target, and what the latest headlines say, followed by a link to AI Mode and a notice that the summary may be incomplete or incorrect

The summary box on a stock's page. A few sentences, a short list of facts, a link to AI Mode and a notice.

  1. 1Labelled as AI
  2. 2Built from this page's numbers and the latest headlines
  3. 3Ask follow-up questions in AI Mode
  4. 4It can be wrong: check what matters
  • The badge says AI Market Summary (or AI Overview on search results), so you always know it is AI-written.
  • The text restates the figures on the page, such as the price, the 52-week range, the market cap, the P/E and the analyst consensus, and then describes what the recent headlines say, naming the outlets and dates.
  • A short list repeats the key facts.
  • Dive deeper in AI Mode carries the same question to AI Mode so you can ask follow-up questions.
  • A notice at the bottom says it may be incomplete or incorrect. Take it at its word: check anything that matters against the page, and see the AI Transparency Notice it links to.

For the same kind of box on ordinary searches, see AI Overview.

#You have to allow it

AI summaries are off until you say yes. Until you do, the box shows the message that AI answers need your permission, and nothing from the page is sent to an AI service.

The AI market summary box before any permission is given: a badge reading AI Market Summary and a message that AI answers need your permission, with Allow AI Answers and Manage privacy choices buttons

Before you allow AI answers, the box explains and asks.

  1. 1The summary box
  2. 2Nothing is sent to an AI service until you allow it
  3. 3Allow AI answers
  4. 4Review all privacy choices
  • Allow AI Answers turns on AI-assisted answers for this site. The summary loads at once.
  • Manage privacy choices opens the privacy panel, where you can review or change the choice at any time. See Your privacy choices.

When you allow it, the figures and headlines on the page are sent to an AI service to write the summary.

#What it can and cannot do

  • It summarizes what is on the page: numbers and the headlines in the 4Search news index. It does not browse the web or know anything the page does not.
  • It describes; it does not recommend. It does not tell you whether to buy or sell, and it should not be read that way.
  • It can be wrong. It can misread a headline or miss one, and when there is no clear reason for a move, the summary says so.
  • The prices it quotes can be delayed by up to 15 minutes, like every price on Finance.
  • A summary for the same page may be reused for a short while, so it can lag the very latest headline.

If the summary cannot load, the box says so and offers Retry AI overview. The rest of the page does not depend on it.

#Common questions

Why is there no summary box on my page?

AI answers may be turned off for the site, or you may be on a page that does not carry one. The comparison, watchlist and market-list pages do not have a summary.

Does the summary give financial advice?

No. It is a description of the page, and it says it may be incomplete or incorrect and must not be relied on as financial advice.

Can I turn it off again?

Yes. Open the privacy panel and switch off AI-assisted answers. See Your privacy choices.

Is the summary written by a person?

No. It is written by an AI model, and the badge says so.
